Clubs & Activities

The Association:
The Association is a mentor and leadership program designed for 4th and 5th grade boys. The group aims to give the young men the tools to become leaders and productive citizens in today’s society. The Association welcomes guest speakers and allows the boys to participate in school service activities.

Battle of the Books:

Battle of the Books is a game show style competition for 5th graders. The competition promotes reading and introduces new literature to 5th grade students. Students are recommended by their 4th grade teachers based on their reading ability. Students must keep up with the rigor of reading 10 books and be able to discuss them and answer questions about the books. They meet before school once or twice a week with the Creekside Media Specialist to practice. The students have to be able to confer with each other to answer the questions which will be true/false and open ended. The Suffolk Battle of the Books competition is held in February each year.

Girls on the Run:
Over a period of 10 weeks, girls in the 3rd through 5th grade can participate in an after-school program that is designed to allow every girl to recognize her inner strength. The objective of Girls on the Run is to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident, using a fun, experience based curriculum, which creatively incorporates running. Our lessons focus on life skills such as being a friend, positively expressing your feelings, and using your “star power.” At the end of each three month session, the girls participate in a Girls on the Run 5K event. This celebratory, non-competitive event is the culminating experience of the curriculum. Girls are selected for the program on a first come, first serve basis when a registration date is set.

Girls with Pearls:

The Girls with Pearls leadership program is designed to equip 3rd-5th grade girls with character that will enable them to be successful in the 21st century. Pearls is an acronym for Positive, Elegant, Ambitious, Respect, Love and Success. The purpose of the club is to promote a healthy, positive, encouraging and supportive environment. Various community leaders are invited to speak to the group to share their knowledge about leadership.

Safety Patrol:
Safety patrol is a very selective group of 4th and 5th grade students who are leaders and role models. They are selected by a group of teachers and Coach Johnson. The Safety Patrol members work to keep the Creekside student body safe by monitoring hallways at dismissal times.

Talented Art:
Talented Art is an elite group of student artists. Students are given a test in 3rd/4th grade, and based on their score, they may be asked to turn in a portfolio of artwork. Their art is evaluated and their combined scores will determine if they are invited to join Talented Art. The students meet once a week in the art room and get to work on special and more advanced projects. They also go on two field trips a year, one downtown to paint holiday windows and then one to the Suffolk Art Museum.

Talented Music:

Talented Music is a group of select 4th and 5th grade students. A test is given in the spring to identify students that meet this gifted criteria. This group meets once a week to learn the recorder, sing songs, and are taught about various aspects of music history and composers. Each spring, they perform with about 250 students from other schools at the evening STARS concert.
